Western Australians are living longer and healthier lives than ever before and are a growing resource for their communities. With the start of 2020, we’ve entered the World Health Organisation’s Decade of Healthy Ageing (2020-2030), a pledge by members to ensure the dignity and equality of the older person.
High on the agenda for the Decade of Healthy Ageing is promoting decent work, and longer working lives, for older people. We also know from our own surveys that up to a third of people who are over 50 years of age now, don’t expect that they will ever retire. Ensuring job opportunities for our ageing population is one of the key challenges facing WA over the next 10 years, with mature-age employment a key national COTA priority in 2020.
